I'm reading and come across this in the book TWO COPS OF TEA which is about a guy who was a trekker, or mountain climber, who fell indebted to people in Pakistan who saved his life when he was trying to climb the mountain, K-2. He committed to and followed through on building schools for the girls in the region and book is about that project, his risk of terrorist reprisal for the American etc.. The name for a girl is one he gave with his wife to their first:
Amira Eliana -- "female leader" in Persian & "gift of God" in Chagga, the tribal language of Killamojaro region of Pakistan.
And I check myself to confirm and find that in Hebrew usage Amira refers to "treetop" and Eliana also means "my God has answered."

If it is a boy...Tanner, Connor, Mason, Oliver

If it is a girl...I need to keep thinking on this one - luckily, you both think it will be a boy at this point!

I think it is neat that as a parent you can choose a name for a baby, a name that WILL stick with them the rest of thier life. with this in mind choosing an uncommon name though beautiful in sound and chock full of meaning may not alway be in the best intrest of the child but merely fullfilling the intrests of the parents.
no offense but choose wisely

I've always loved the name Patsy but it's not liked by many (such as: Michael). Honestly, people tell me that once you see that beautiful baby for the first time you'll know what the best name for he/she will be. Congratulations to the both of you and may you have a beautiful/healthy baby boy or GIRL!

Hi Matt - I am here in Key West and it looks like Hemmingway is a big del here - so that's my input for the name.

Good luck to you and your wife!

i really like your dad's suggestion especially since you've always liked the name Elana/Alana/Elaina and Eliana is an interesting variation on that. And the meaning is beautiful. Amira is unique and sort of close to Asha which I still like.

For a boy I'm still a fan of Brady or Noel Jefferson (I just thought of that) Also two names which I think are strong but not used much are Peter and Max.

i love you both so much! you will be such amazing parents!

One of the most important things is to "THINK"...you are a teacher..you see read and call students names many times..over the years...DO NOT give your kid a strange name..(Ie=maurice)...make sure the kid gets a NORMAL decent easy to pronounce name...Dont have your kid asking himself years later as kids tease him..what were my mom and dad thinking? hello?....
for a girl..I have always liked "Jennifer" and for a boy...I have three of the best..Matt Mike and Nick!!! "Now its Your turn:)"
